Coincidentally, R Kelly's story "Surviving R Kelly", a phrase littered across so many social media platforms, especially youtube channels, where dozens of women lay allegations against this finest black American RnB and Soul singer, about a sexual assault, simply links to my previous analysis about the Black American reasons behind such genre of music, hip hop.The analysis below comprises of the musical realities of the black Americans: case study, R Kelly. Through the analysis, we are going to:
_Look at what the BBC reported about the allegations against Kelly,
_What cnsnews reported,
_Who is R Kelly,
_His longest audio song of repentance, "I Admit",
_How he represent a typical black American hip hop artist and
_Conclusion.
R Kelly has been entangled in a good number of cases against him which most are about his alleged sexual attitude toward dozens of women who came up complaining. They accused and cursed him for having use them as sex dulls, with secret sex cults, while practicing child pornography. By this sources say he considers flying away from America.
BBC reports:
Taking references from the BBC reports few months ago, June last year, a certain 20 year old Faith Rodgers, claimed R Kelly unlawfully gave her alcohol, assaulted her and gave her a sexual transmitted diseases, thus, she was suing the RnB singer in court. Though Kelly's representative, Gerry Mogarlis categorically turn down this allegations against Kelly. Contrary, Kelly himself on his autobiography, was a victim of a child sex abuse for years by an older woman who told him to keep it a secret.
In addition, Kelly musical life though successful, hasn't been a stone through as the beginning was never a bed of roses. He has been involved in a series of accusations starting from Marries Aaliyah in 1994, 1996 by Tiffany Hawkins, 2001 by Tracy Sampson, Patrice Jones in 2002, including the dozens of such cases by women who have stormed the social media, especially YouTube and Instagram, promising him held. These women have accused him of nasty and mystical things they went through as they dated him. It has simply been termed "Surviving R Kelly"
cnsnews repo
rts:
Through information from another platform, cbsnews.com, R Kelly estranged daughter, Buku Abi, previously known as Jaonn Kelly, in a lengthy message on her Instagram page, addressing the rising cases against his father, calls him a "monster" outlining that her two siblings and herself, haven't spoken with their father, Kelly, for years. He laments on her silence about the several cases against his father. She says "The same monster you all confronting me about is my father. I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house. My choice to not speak on him and what he does is for peace of mind". This is just one of his numerous daughters.
Who is Kelly:
Robert Sylvester Kelley is the RnB, songwriter, producer and former basketball player super star's biological name. He was born in January 8, 1967(52years), in Chicago, a federal state in America. He began performing in late 1880s and fully engaged in 1992 with a group, Public Announcement. In 1993, he went solo with the album 12play. He is known for a collection of major hits like "I believe I can fly", "Bump N' Grind", "Your Body's Callin", "The world's Greatest", "Victory" and so many featuring with other popular artists. In 1998, Kelly won three Grammy Awards for the song " I believe I can fly". It's indeed worthy to note that his distinctive style has influenced numerous hip hop artists, especially RnB.
He Repents through his long audio song, "I Admit":
Now, for the fact that every human being is conscious of Good and Bad, R Kelly comes up with a 19minutes audio song, "I admit" admitting all the frivolous and repulsive attitude toward himself handling life as a whole, and toward women. The song is written in 8verses, each recognizing and regretting about all his wrong doings. In the first verse, first line , Kelly admits "I admit I done made some mistakes". To prove that all humans are conscious of good and bad, Kelly says in the second verse "I admit I love God but wait it's so much temptation" and at the last line in the same verse, "I admit I'm sorry for my sins". Also, confirming his numerous cases in court mostly by women accusing him of sexual assaults, Kelly admit in verse 3 "But lawyers told me settle this..Even though it's bulshit 'Kelly Protect your career'". He also admits the devil spoked with him some time ago, but in contrast, the devil is not who he trust. When you go through the 8verses, you'll find a lot of confessional statements made by the RnB supper star. Judging from the few statements, one can confidently say all human beings are conscious of GOOD and BAD. Kelly is therefore, not different.
Kelly represent a typical black American hip hop artist:
Taking references from my previous post about why African parents didn't support their children doing music till nowadays, I analysed how Africans at the time copied this genre of music, hip hop from black Americans that was seen by their parents as assaultive and vocal in their verses. To the black Americans, it was mainly to relief stress of not given same opportunities in the society or racial instincts. If they were allowed to go to school as the whites, or even the the few who went and were not mocked at, maybe, the rise of hip hop wouldn't have been the topic today. This genre of music attracts a lot of women. Though other genres at the time such as copé dicalé that started mainly in Africa, precisely in Ivory Coast, attracts women as well, but...
Reading R Kelly's story from all those women who came up with cases against him and his long audio records, "I admit", one can justifiably say with all confidence that, R Kelly represent a typical black American hip hop artist. He is just the micro-Macrocosm of what is happening to other artists. Hardly can you find a hip star in America without a story of an extra-marital life or having dozens of children out of their marriage, examples being Snoop Dogg, Nelly, P.Diddy, Birdman, etc. This lifestyle though copied by many Africans, they still exercise some dignity when it comes to women.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, judging from the BBC's reports of the numerous court cases against Kelly, cnsnews reports, his story and what message his son, "I admit" possesses, one can say as a human being with so many temptations, Kelly has just been trapped with the accesses of the society. That's why he admits it in his long audio. He still has a chance to change and be a better person as the Bible says, to err is human and to forgive is Divine.
