Review: Spaco, One Of The Oldest Anglophone Comedian, Confessed He Has Never Attended A Show As That Of O Boy Comedy Show!
In the following lines, we are going to analyse the O Boy Comedy Show in three steps:
_The pros,
_The cons and
_Uche's statement at the show.
_Who is O Boy?
I reittirate this, any initiative that seeks to bring people together for a positive impact, should always be encouraged. Togetherness is strength. It may not be superb, but in every stage, we limit the level of mistakes in proceeded events. The definition of O Boy comedy show yesterday in Djeuga Palace, Yaounde, is CLASSIC.
The pros of the Show:
As mentioned above, the definition of the show to me and many I consolted, is CLASSIC. The O boy Comedy Show team left no stone unturned to give the best of comfort to its invitees. The level of professionalism, contrary to other few shows I have attended, was at its pick.
Just at the entrance to the hall, stood one beautiful damsel with a golden smile and a wonderful soft voice, she was one of the 'protocol ladies'. Just the thought of her voice and beautiful smiles, could made one laugh to all jokes even if not being funny. I almost thought I was one of highest celebrities in the industry after she welcomed me at the entrance to the hall in such a charismatic manner. After passing this lady, I look at how I was dressed, not even up to standards, then, I wondered why such a pretty lady will greets me in that approach, and before I know it, everyone was saying how they were impressed by the lady's approach.
The comfort of the hall and the numerous drinks, keep the audience smiling even without a comedian on stage. Drinks were left over on tables after the show. This showed how prepared the team was and how satisfied were the invitees.
The head of the managing team of the O Boy Comedy Show, Mrs Mega, better known as Chuffi, who was also the co-founder of the Show Concept and a Senior Youth and Action Counselor by profession, kept checking if the services staff was doing their job perfectly by responding to the invitees when needed. She'll go round from table to table taking note if everyone was comfortable. Also, she'll stand at the corner of the hall, carefully observing if everything was going smoothly.
O Boy in his usual comic manner and simplicity, keep strolling up and down the hall, giving everyone a smiling face even before the numerous great comedians that thrilled the show. Also, he put up a wonderful performance as the prominent guest of the show and everyone almost laughed out their lungs.
The show saw in attendance great comedians such as the famous French comedian (Moustik Le Karismatik), Senior pastor, who is one of the most influential English comedian alongside O Boy, The Oracle(Emmanuel Bate), Mp3, Badly brought up from "Sasse English News", Uche and the old broom, Spaco, who confessed he has never attended a show such as that of O Boy Da Comic. These comedians gave out their best in thrilling the audience
Six artists performed at the show, though it was a comedy show. These artists were: The famous Wan Shey, Brians Lee, Chris Will, DE Faka, Lizzy Cool and Nerish Clin. This is in contrast to most musical concerts I've attended, such without guest comedians.
The level of the dignitaries that attended the show, littered the stage with 'farotage' when a comedian or an artist was on stage. The attendance was best; the hall was 89% full. This is good publicity.
The mc, O Boy Da Comic; the DJ, Aweh Mark Vow; the red carpet host, Carisma Esther Patrick Adedamola, CEO of BYOM tv; etc, were all perfect in their duties. The sound quality of the speakers was good.
In all, I grade the show, especially in its organisation from the beginning to the end, 87% successful.
The cons of the show:
It's becoming a usual phenomenon in Cameroon that we don't respect events time. The tickets presented that the red carpet was to start at 6pm and the show at 7pm. This was not the respected, the show started exactly at 3minutes pass 9pm, 2hours late, and ended around few minutes to 2am in the morning.
Quest actors and comedians such as the famous Epulle Jeffery( though his family members and friends were around) and one of cameroon's finest mboko rapper, Mic Monsta, among others, were absent at the show. This is in contrast to what some flyers showed on social media.
The out put of some comedians were not thrilling and most of the comedies were about Christianity. People were absolutely amused, but not at the rib cracking style when some Nigerians comedians are on stage(Not really comparism). Our entertainment industry entirely, have to WORK hard, harder and hardest.
People were together, but not really United as per the social media outings. When it comes to ground work or offline, especially in events as such, you fine anyone staying in their own lane.
Uche Statement at the show:
Uche is just one of the comedians from Bamenda that thrilled the show with his Nigerian-Like style of comedy, especially their unique pidgin English. As he was cracking his jokes, he made a statement after asking Cameroonians, especially the invitees, to pray for them in Bamenda and Buea about the situations they go through everyday. He said "Our thinking has been destorted"
This statement litterary, is very broard. This shows that the behavior or the lifestyle of man, is centered around its six senses, which are: see, hear, touch, taste, smell and feel.
It is in according to the happenings around his environment. In cameroon, the youths are thinking more on how the crisis will be resolved, how they can get jobs, how they can build their own business, etc. It's same in every country, but for the entertainment industry in a country to grow especially in talents, the youths need to be averagely motivated. So, the youths are preoccupied with all these happenings than thinking how to crack comics or compose good songs.
I can confidently say, any effect on any Anglophone in Cameroon now and in general, either positively or negatively, must be linked to the upheavals in the two English Regions of the country.
A very clearly example at the show, was Uche's complain and most comedians ended their performances with a word of living together. Even one of O Boy's comedy piece was all about the situation back home. This demonstrates that, though we're weconcentrating in our different domains of life, everyone is preoccupation and wish, is to see the upheavals in cameroon resolved. Reason why i explained that most comedians we're not really flowing or giving the audience the rib cracking jokes.
