Review: Will Phill Daisy Rise Above Circumstances in Cameroon?

In a recent Ted Talk, titled "Creativity Builds Nations" Kenyan Artiste and Festival Organizer Muthoni Drummer Queen, expressed how as an upcoming Kenyan artist, she received several rejections from producers because "she was not Kenyan enough". Meaning she did not integrate the local language and style of music so they said Kenyans wouldn't listen to a Kenyan who sounded like her. Forward a few years later, she decided to build her career herself, and now runs a festival for musicians like her, and has a TedTalk.

This story is relevant to almost all countries in Africa. When young people are shunned by their leaders for embracing cultures from other countries. The bottom line is the exclusion of people based on their deviation from the norms.

So how does this concern Phill Daisy?

His music is clearly not local, and neither is his campaign. From Dancehall to hip-hop spiced with rocky feelings, his concepts are daring and innovative. In a country where young musicians have been forced and conditioned to sing choirlike and semi folkloric urban music by the purchasing power of the baby boomer generation, which completely undermines the power of millennials especially over the long term, artists like Phill Daisy are rare, who are willing to stand for inclusiveness and break barriers.

Just like Muthoni, Phill Daisy is not alone, in recent years from Cameroon, we have noticed a good number of  young artists embracing global cultures and when faced with blockages, the artists chose the entrepreneurial route to establish themselves and build sustainable businesses. Examples, like Stanley Enow, Askia, Jovi and Tzy Panchak

In the words of his team, his music is "A sound birthed from the grit of dynamic urban reenergizes through the sun and struggle of Artistic survival in Cameroon."

He will be releasing his debut EP titled " Rise Above Circumstances " on the 9th of November 2019 on all digital platforms worldwide and we have been privileged to listen to some of it.

His music music illustrate both youthful drive and esoteric wisdom which can be attributed to the time he has spent cultivating his craft, Punctuated by catchy hooks and lyrical mannerism that reflects his originality and sound identity, Phil Daisy offers music that crosses both borders and influences.

So far, he has one of the best management teams any artist in Cameroon can dream to have.

The big question? Will Phill Daisy Rise above Circumstances?

One thing is sure, we need more young people to rise above their circumstances, in Cameroon, and we wish team Phill Daisy the best.

Make sure to check out his music on www.philldaisy.com
