Do we often do what we do because of Talents or passion? Or just because we're responding to society? I believe majority of answers here should be responding to the society. I'll explain.
In fact, there is a usual saying that nothing remain constant in life including human beings and their names, everything do change. The world is evolving and the society usually prompt us to do different things in daily bases. That's is, we're merely responding to the societal demands.
Scoping down the scale of our analysis to the music evolution around the world both in time and space, I have come across an article about the "West Coast and the "East Coast" music, the two hip hop camps that emerged and controlled America music since the 1970s, explaining how the genre of music nowadays lacks good content such as lyrical power, structure and the usual beef. It also did pointed out that the old hip hop style use to be more welcoming and loved because of its direct respond to the societal happenings in America then such as political instability, economic depression that was limited only to a particular class of people (the whites), all these, leading to social misconduct by the affected class(the blacks). It was more enjoyable because, it touches the real happenings in the society.
Also, I did write an article on "why African parents now supports their children doing music" which you can also check in this platform. In it, I explained how young Africans were being influenced by the western world and their lifestyle which in African culture, was forbidden. Africa and America were both suffering from colonisation and fortunately for Africa, they had a subsidiary culture. Now, for over the years, we've been blending our culture with the western culture to give a particular musical composition, enjoyed across the globe.
This is simply showing that one can change his talents and passion to suit the sociatal demands. Reality can never be changed and the reality is that, the society of yesterday can never be the society of today.
Now, to cut corners, STANLEY ENOW is an award winning Cameroonian artist and the first Cameroonian to win the Mtv Best New Act Award in 2014 who started up music as a dreaded and daring rapper, but as he continued his music journey, being exposed to the economic world, especially the music business world, he started shiefting from "Stanley Enow the rapper" to "Stanley Enow the afro pop singer"
So many prolific rappers have emerged in Cameroon even before the likes of STANLEY ENOW, such as KOPPO, KROTAL TONY NOBODY, who STANLEY ENOW always referred to in most of his interviews as his godfather. It's absolutely clear non of these early rappers have made the gains STANLEY ENOW has made just in a very short while including his worldwide exposure. Most of his awards, he won as a rapper. He was even interviewed over cnn as an inspired African rapper. He confessed he was passionate in rap music and that rap to him was a medium of expressing his worries. He citted rappers like Jay Z, Biggie, Ja Rule, etc, for having inspired him.
Now, who has inspired STANLEY ENOW in afro pop remains the question. As we seek to explain our point, we can clearly say his change of style is a direct responds to the societal demands. He now believes more in the business of music than his passion. That's how the present society works.
STANLEY ENOW changed his genre of music when he started associating with the likes of these Nigerian supper stars, Davido, 2face, Mr. Eazi, Olamide, etc. He has been highly criticised by his fans who actually enjoyed his rap songs. A larger majority of his fans especially in Cameroon, now see him as satisfying his music business deals with such a new gotten genre, than respecting their support to him through his rap songs.
But as a bridge between talents and passion/reality and the society, STANLEY ENOW has hugely bridged his talents and passion and seems to be facing the reality of the society. He now believes that his experiences as a rapper, as a business journalist (his course in school), rapping would not exposed him more to the outside world and definitely, his songs may not bring him the necessary cash. Nothing remains constant in life, one opportunity may exposed you to the other, it's not because you succeeded as a truck pusher, that you'll remain a truck pusher for life
All hail STANLEY ENOW.
