Vibes: Universal Music Has No Plans For African Artists!

There has been a lot of mix feelings among African lovers and promoters of entertainment, to which plans do some world leading music groups such as: Universal Music Group (UMG, Sony Music Group(SMG), Warner Music Group(WMG) and G.O.O.D Music Group(GMG), have for African artists signed into their labels.

They argue that the images of their artists go into the cupboard immediately they get into such heavy weight labels, citing the case of Dbanj from Nigeria, who was a household name in African's entertainment, but immediately he signed a contract with GMG few years ago, his image has gone down in the dust.

Also, citing the case of Tenor and Locko, two powerful emerging lyricists in Africa from Cameroon, whose images have been dangling after signing a deal with UMG. Tiwa Savage from Nigeria is also among the recently signed artists into UMG while Davido has escaped several attempts by SMG to lure him sign a deal with them.

But, what surprises most people is that, amidst these mix feelings, African artists still seem to enjoy being part of these world leading music groups, supposedly by high paying rate as some believe.

Reading across promotional platforms by some Cameroonian bloggers and promoters, we came across these five heavy weight artists(Pit Baccadi, Shalotte Dipanda, Magasco, Minks, Mimie) whose selfless and unmeasurable endevour to uplift Cameroon's image on the map of African entertainment, has signed a contract with UMG.

At this juncture, it's not yet clear about the kind contract as wondered by Fabz Chi of Kesamagazine, who promised to bring a thorough analysis about the kind of contract that has just existed between these artists and UMG, because contracts exist at different levels.

Aweh Mark Vow, one of the most proficient socio-Cultural promoter, DJ, eloquent Mc, passionate artists, show organizer and CEO of Master Planner Movement, in Cameroon, has these questions for us.

As we wait to get full details of this news, we pray that the image of Cameroon's entertainment should not be sold out.

It's a Journey for the Truth...
