Since I came across this communique on social media announcing the departure of Magasco from the Empire crew and creating an independent label callled Bboy Records, his fans, supporters and promoters, have been jubilating. Everybody seems to be very happy this great move by Magasco, except for Chi Gaston, an online promoter, who casted doubts about a sustainable road map of the label, sitting the case of Mr. Leo, Locko, Blaise B and Ambe who all have independent labels under their control with little influences.
Tohnain Anthony Nguo aka Magasco, born on September 22, 1988, was signed under Empire since 2013 in a 5 year contract deal. His presence in this label has brought about considerably achievements, including representing the label both Nationally and internationally. He is from the North West Region of Cameroon, precisely from Kom
Also, being one of the most humble and talented artist in the music industry in the country, indeed, he has taken a bull step, pending very loyal and recognition words to his boss, Pit Barcadi. He thanks him for the love and support they have shared together through his commuque, as he set for greater golds ahead. Magasco has had a good number of trending songs under this label such as, "Wule Bang Banga", "Belinda", "Sokoto" and other hit songs with some great artists such as "I'l faut pas oblier" ft Dosaih, "one by one" ft Pit Barcadi, and "Love it" ft Shan'l. His EP(Raw Gold) and his album (Golden Boy), released in 2015 and 2017 respectively, were heard touching.
So many people have been wondering if Magasco will be able to compete with some of this heavy weight labels, Empire, his formal label, Alpha Better Records and Blu Nation Records. Remembering that he started music in a very tender age, coming up in his first public appearance in 1999 through an event called "Positive vibration" in Bamenda, forming a rap group in 2000 called "T Drops", 19years ago, and finally becoming an international artist in 2013 when he was finally signed under Empire.
Magasco has won considerably awards, starting with winning the 'Best North West Urban Artist' on the red feather awards, 'Fafani Awards' in the category of the revolutionary artist and was norminated for Best Male artist in central African.
Making references to Chi Gaston statements one more, sitting the case of social media, he says "Setting up a record label isn't only about registering the label, setting social media handlers to make it look beautiful but entails a lot". This statement is important, but we should understand that Magasco now works as an independent artist and will give more time to his label other than Mr. Leo and Locko who still operate as dependent artists under their different labels.
In conclusion, Magasco has just done what he was expected to of, in references to the views of the general public. Many believe in him, demonstrated through his concert on Palais de sport Yaounde last year. I think if we all offer Magasco the same love, there is going to be a big difference.
