Review: A Millionaire Gave An Artist A Historic Favour At The Master Night Gold, MNG!
As we usually say, anyone who conceives an idea aimed at assembling people in any confab to share or sell common ideas should always be encouraged.
Togetherness should the first principle of man. The Master Night Gold represented exactly this principle. The Master planner movement is champion in leading such initiatives, always with an amazing response.
The MNG yesterday was one of the most reactive events in recent times. Let's take a look at what went down at the event.
THE MASTERS NIGHT GOLD will be analysed in five directions: The pros, The cons, Why all artists don't perform at shows, The implications of La Majesty's gesture to Lizzy Cool, Green Spices and the entire industry, "Even if Big G Baba didn't come, nobody would've noticed because, the show without him is still a success" an attendee.
THE PROS:
The location of this show was too open for any lover of entertainment around the vicinity to miss, Fresh Planet, Carrefour Obili.
From the set up of the red carpet, including the most fluent red carpet host, Sanzy, everyone already knew it was going to be a successful event. Good lights, good backdrop, etc. The serenity was indeed cool.
The hall was clean and classic as a new pin. most people who have been attending shows in this hall couldn't such a new transformation.
The American classic type of stage, impressed attendees. The stage was only compared to what we see on Bet tv. The backdrop was the master planner movement logo and on the podium, was the Woso Entertainment logo.
The DJ played Cameroon songs in times of transition than foreign songs. The hall was full to the brim, to an extend that people hang on without seats.
The sound system which is actually one of the most challenging issues in Fresh Planet and in most events, was good. One could get the songs clearly, even transforming what some refer to as 'wack songs' to good songs, though was non.
The VIP section was well loaded with drinks. Also, high-level personalities attended the show including major filmmakers, actors, actresses and bloggers.
We had 3 experienced MCs, who did their outmost best in ensuring the smooth movement of their mics.
There were great performances, especially from the Wosoh Entertainment crew with its lead artist, 6stus coming all the way from Nigeria. He put up the Naija kind show alongside the dreaded De Faka from the Master Planner Movement. The boss of Wosoh Entertainment, Paddy Powers, was present.
There was enough 'farrotage' especially from the millionaire. Each artist whose song got the Millionaire's attention, left the podium with 10.000fr. Artists could actually leave the stage being appreciated for their efforts.
Though it was had, the organizers tried their best to satisfy every attendee along guess artists. One could see Aweh Mark Vow moving up and down the hall, ensuring everything was going on smoothly.
THE CONS:
I went round the hall asking few questions to the attendees. These were some of their negative remarks about the show:
JC de Jesus, an artist, noted that there was Anglophone majority at the show, that the francophone artists were discriminated. Also, that he paid 4.000fr but didn't smell the mic or mount the podium. He also advised that artists shouldn't be invited above the estimated time of their performance.
Naron, an attendee, appreciated the organizers for good organization, but based his negative remarks on the size of the hall, that people had no seats and were force to remain standing.
Daddy Vain said, show organizers are only out to maximize profit, but won't treat their artist properly. That when they come to event, no attention was given to them.
As always the case in most local and advance shows, that most artists come, but always fail to perform, the organizer, Aweh mark Vow put the number of artists who failed to perform at 4 with reasons to why they didn't perform: one came too late, one was announced on stage and he didn't show up, one was unidentified on the artist list and one came with his song on phone. But contrary to the organizers remarks, more than 7artists own up that they didn't performed.
The spectacular artist, Big G Baba came exactly at 2:45 and went directly on stage. He performed for less than 45minutes. There wasn't enough protocol and people still find difficulties getting to their rightful seats.
The show started late, at 11pm, contrary to what people were meant to understand, that show will start at 8am. Also much time given to an artist on stage to talk which killed time. An artist will talk for more than one minute on stage, not really saying anything important. Smart artists can brand themselves in 15 seconds
THE IMPLICATION OF SA MAJESTE'S GESTURE TOWARD LIZZY COOL, GREEN SPICES AND THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY
The Entertainment industry in Cameroon has little or no support from those they call millionaires in the country. Artists have been left to manage themselves with very little resources. Some go as far as comparing the situation in Cameroon to that of Nigeria where artists actually receive huge support from their country's millionaires.
Yesterday was historic in the music lives of these two artists who put up wonderful performances at the Master Night Gold (MNG), Green Spices and Lizzy Cool. Sa Majeste is known to have offered Lizzy Cool 1m after her performance at Palais de sport last year. Yesterday as artists were performing, his love once more felt on Green Spices who offered to promote him. In the instance, he gave both Green Spice and Lizzy Cool a cash prize of 50.000fr each including 10.000fr for the 3 MCs present.
This is indeed good for the industry. If we have few of such people who actually love and are ready to promote entertainment in Cameroon, the industry will grow. Imagine you have a concert and few of those people are invited, they can change the lives of so many artists. This is actually what happens in Nigeria and their industry keeps growing every day.
"EVEN IF BIG G BABA DIDN'T COME, NOBODY WOULD'VE NOTICED BECAUSE THE SHOW WITHOUT HIM COULD HAVE STILL BEEN A SUCCESS"
This statement is very important both to event organizers, artists, and attendees. We often devalue what we can do without established artists on our events. If an attendee is saying this, much credit will go to the organizers, first, for convening such a confab for assembly. Again, making the hall very comfortable and being able to bring in the crowd is an additional credit. Also, much credit to artists who put up great performances able to thrilled the audience. Just looking at the stage and how full the hall was, one could simply feel satisfied and even without the presence of a big name like Big G Baba, one couldn't have noticed.
